The South African travel industry is not regulated. ASATA is a legally constituted non-profit trade association, and our authority is limited. Membership with ASATA is voluntary, and we do not function as an ombudsman. This means that ASATA does not have the legal power to:

  • Close a company
  • Impose fines
  • Dictate a course of action
  • Enforce decisions

For consumer-related disputes, we recommend contacting the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO), who may be able to assist you.

This membership is for Travel Agents, Travel Advisors, Travel Management Companies and Tour Operators, whos core business is to sell travel experiences, including flights, accommodation, and tours, directly to individual travellers, businesses, or other travel professionals.
